For me, the best moment as a tutor is that "lightbulb moment" when a student who has been struggling with a concept and felt defeated suddenly understands what they are doing. I live for that moment, and I know that my students can feel that I truly care about them and their success. I think I have the best job in the world. To be able to help struggling students do better and find peace in their schoolwork, and to help excelling students reach their true potential means everything to me.
Our goal is to make things simple, break them down into pieces that are easy to digest, and take away the anxiety that can come along with both schoolwork and standardized tests. With standardized testing, my goal is to demystify the test and make it feel accessible to all students, and with schoolwork, it is to break huge concepts and projects into pieces a student can easily manage.
Each student’s program is customized around their specific needs and abilities, and focused to both support their strengths and improve in the areas where they struggle. For academic tutoring, most students come once per week through the academic year, but of course the best part of the one-on-one model is that each student has a tailor made program. For test prep, the same is true. Some students come just once or twice, others for months leading up to the standardized test they are taking.
